JADE LEAF MEAL: The match of the Century at Barça, with a match that was supposed to be the match of a lifetime.
When Neymar scored the winning goal at the Nou Camp on Sunday, Barça fans were on the verge of tears, as their team became the first team in the Champions League to win four consecutive league games.
But when the match was halted after a controversial penalty shoot-out, Neymar was forced to sit through the rest of the match and was not replaced until the final whistle.
The match of today was supposed on a Saturday afternoon, but Neymar’s goal had to be rediscovered at half-time when the officials ruled that a goal kick was not allowed, leading to a stoppage-time replay and a 1-1 draw.
Neymar is the second player to score twice against Barça this season after Sergio Busquets, who also scored twice against the Catalan giants on the same day.
“The referee said Neymar didn’t touch the ball, and the referee said it was not a penalty kick, so Neymar got his shirt back and the match ended,” Barça coach Luis Enrique said.
Neymar has been the star of Barça’s recent title run, scoring seven goals and adding eight assists in his first five games in the competition.
He also has two goals and three assists in five Champions League games.
Barcelona are now two points ahead of leaders Bayern Munich and one behind leaders Real Madrid.
Neymas goal also helped the Catalans to a 2-0 win over Villarreal on Tuesday, although the match will not be televised on the Spanish football channel La Liga.
